Spriggs Florist is one of just 12 English florists to have been selected for a new full-colour flower book. We are featured for the month of December in ‘Flower Shops & friends - a year’s journey around English flower shops’, published by Fanahan Books. It is the third book in The Flower Shop series.
As well as our flower shop the book also features other attractions in Petworth to give the reader a feel for the area. The publication visits 12 flower shops throughout England - excluding London. The author Sally Page explains “I decided in my book to celebrate the exquisite florists that are scattered around the rest of England from Dartmouth to the Lake District.” She says that the flower shops she photographed for her book demonstrate the vast array of floral talent that exists throughout England, including Matthew Spriggs’ talent for decorating some of his client’s beautiful homes ready for Christmas.
“It seems that people like the books because the flowers are not only beautiful to look at but Flower Shops and friends give you a unique insight into the life of a community”. And it has been a busy year for Fanahan Books as they are also launching a second book, ‘Flower Shop Secrets’, which lets readers in on the useful tips that florists know, including some secrets Sally learnt from Matthew on her visits to Sussex. Sally says they really hope this book will be a Christmas success as all the profits Fanahan Books make from it will go to Msaada, a development agency that Billy Kelly set up with journalist Fergal Keane to help widows and orphans in Rwanda .
